6 Steps To Achieving Anything

One of the things I am most passionate about is helping people achieve things they thought were previously impossible.  The amazing thing about working with people in fitness is that once they start to achieve those “impossible” feats, it trickles over into other areas of life.

Someone who loses 50 pounds or conquers new feats of strength for the first time suddenly gets a promotion at work, gains the confidence to quit their job and start that business they’ve been dreaming about, or even leave a relationship that made them unhappy and wasn’t serving them.

It’s truly incredible to witness these total life transformations over and over again.  And I believe it comes down to following these 6 steps:

1.      Identify your impossible goal.  What’s that thing you’ve been dreaming about but haven’t committed to or verbalized?

2.      Commit to a deadline.  Write it down.  Make it non-negotiable.  Look at the goal and deadline every day.

3.      Reverse engineer the steps it’s going to take to achieve that goal.  Ask for support from a friend or coach if you’re not sure.

4.      Ask yourself “what will it cost me to achieve this goal?”  Will it cost money, time, or giving up things you enjoy like television?  Make sure you’re willing to commit to the cost no matter what.

5.      Ask yourself “who do I have to become to make this happen?  Do you need to become a morning person, more independent, or figure out a way to eliminate excuses from your vocabulary?  You MUST check in on yourself every day to ensure you are becoming who you need to achieve the goal.

6.      Find someone who believes in you and get them to hold you accountable.  Very few people achieve goals entirely on their own.  Having a coach to support you is one of the BEST things you can do.  They will give you honest feedback, help identify your blind spots, and help you strategize when you feel like your plan isn’t working.

Ok, now it’s your turn!

Give it some thought (or maybe you know right away) then share with me your IMPOSSIBLE GOAL!  It is only by setting, working toward, and achieving the “impossible” that we truly live an extraordinary life.

How To Handle Judgement Against Your Commitment

Whether it’s snarky comments about your commitment to healthy eating, doubtful looks from friends and family who don’t believe you can stick with it, or the food pusher who just won’t leave you alone, most people who’ve started their health and fitness journey have experienced one or more of those scenarios.

And these events can be absolutely detrimental to one’s commitment if we’re not careful.

The reason I’m sharing this with you today is because I want you to be prepared when these things start showing up.

Expecting the unexpected is one of the best ways to navigate situations like this.

So why would friends and loved ones be seemingly interested in sabotaging your health and success?

Well, simply put – it really has nothing to do with you.

It’s their own insecurities coming out and being projected on you.

Or it may even be their fear coming out around what it means for their relationship with you if you change.

It could even be plain jealousy.

Whatever the case may be, be prepared and know that it truly has nothing to do with you.

You don’t have to take the food from the food pusher. “No, I’m good” is a perfectly acceptable response.

You don’t have to fall to judgmental eyes out of fear of rejection/isolation.

You’re getting healthy for YOU and everyone in your life benefits from that – remember this if things ever get super tough in this department.

I hope this helps. Or, if there’s someone else in your life who needs to hear this, please feel free to forward this message on.

Here’s to wrapping up 2019 as your healthiest YOU.

5 steps for up-leveling your mindset

The perspective from which I want to discuss this topic today has to do with cultivating a mindset that

actually allows you to reach your goals.

It’s easy to get fed up with your current situation – whether it be weight, a job, finances, a relationship

or otherwise – and say to yourself “I’m done! Things are about to change!”

But then they don’t.

Because that moment of inspiration from frustration is fleeting.

A month, a year, and 5 years go by and things are still the same…

…unless you create a new mindset that will allow you to follow through all the way to success.

Here are 5 steps you can take to do just that:

1. Identify your past mistakes. Chances are that this thing you want to change…well, it’s not the

first time you’ve thought of tackling it. So go back and take note of why you weren’t successful

in the past.

2. Create small goals to achieve along the way. If you’v got a pretty big goal, it can feel like you’re

standing at the base of Mount Everest. Overwhelm will not be helpful in getting to your

destination, so setting smaller goals to work toward that ultimately add up to the big goal is

important for maintaining your motivation.

3. Stay flexible in your pursuit. Plans don’t always work out like we want them to. Life throws us

challenges. Most people quit as soon as things get in their way. You cannot! Be ready to adapt

as you move forward.

4. Stay inspired. The initial burst of inspiration you get to take action won’t last forever, so you

have to find ways to keep the inspiration. Some suggestions can be creating a vision board,

having an accountability circle of others who keep you on track, or listening to/reading things

that inspire you every day.

5. Engage in a daily routine. Whether it’s journaling, reading, writing or saying affirmations,

visualization, or a combination of all of them, having a daily routine centered around personal

growth will absolutely keep you on track in pursuit of your goals.

This is a formula, not a pick-and-choose, so it’s important that you do all of the above!
